Issues That Matter

Where Cory Raymond stands on the issues facing ME voters.

Property Taxes & Housing Affordability

Rising property taxes are pushing long-time residents and working families out of Rockport and across the midcoast. Cory believes homeowners deserve relief, not more excuses from Augusta. He will fight for real property tax relief and policies that make housing attainable again for Maine families.

Maine's property tax burden has become unsustainable for working families and retirees on fixed incomes who have lived in this community for generations. In towns like Rockport, rising valuations paired with unchecked municipal and state spending are forcing people out of homes they've owned for decades. Cory will advocate for expanded homestead exemptions, greater transparency in municipal spending, and state-level reforms that give towns the tools to hold the line on taxes without cutting essential services. Housing affordability starts with keeping the home you already have.

Energy Costs & Maine's Economy

Electricity rates in Maine are among the highest in the nation, and they're crushing households and small businesses alike. Cory opposes costly mandates that drive up energy prices without delivering results for ordinary Mainers. He supports an all-of-the-above energy strategy that prioritizes affordability and reliability.

Maine families are paying too much to heat their homes and keep the lights on, and it's not an accident — it's the result of Augusta policies that prioritize ideology over affordability. Cory will push back against expensive renewable mandates that spike utility rates, support expanded access to domestic energy sources, and demand that any energy policy be evaluated first on what it costs the average Maine family. Small businesses on the midcoast — from boatyards to restaurants — cannot compete when their energy bills keep climbing. Affordable, reliable energy is an economic issue, a quality-of-life issue, and Cory will treat it that way.

Protecting Small Businesses

Maine's small businesses are the backbone of the midcoast economy, and they are being buried under taxes, regulations, and mandates that make it harder to hire, grow, and survive. Cory will stand up for the owners and workers who drive District 41's economy.

From marine trades and lobstering to retail shops and contractors, District 41's economy runs on small businesses and the people who own and operate them. Cory will fight to reduce the regulatory burden that adds costs without adding value, oppose new business taxes that undercut competitiveness, and support workforce training initiatives that help Maine businesses find and keep skilled workers. He understands that when local businesses thrive, the whole community benefits — and when Augusta makes it harder to run a business in Maine, everyone pays the price.

Fishing, Farming & Maine's Working Waterfront

Maine's fishing industry and working waterfront are part of our identity and our economy, and they are under constant threat from federal overreach and misguided state policy. Cory will be a fierce advocate for the fishermen, farmers, and watermen who define this region.

The working waterfront — the lobstermen, fishermen, and marine trades workers who have sustained the midcoast economy for generations — deserve a representative who will go to bat for them in Augusta. Cory opposes burdensome regulations that threaten fishing livelihoods without meaningful conservation benefit, and he will push back against any state action that undermines access to Maine's working waterfront. He also supports Maine's farming community and will champion policies that keep agricultural land productive and accessible for the next generation of Maine farmers.

Public Safety & Second Amendment Rights

Safe communities start with well-supported law enforcement and respect for Mainers' constitutional rights. Cory fully supports the Second Amendment and will oppose any legislation that infringes on the right of law-abiding Mainers to keep and bear arms.

Maine has historically been one of the safest states in the nation, and Cory intends to keep it that way — by supporting our local law enforcement professionals, not undermining them. He will advocate for adequate resources for Knox County public safety agencies and oppose Augusta-driven mandates that tie officers' hands. Cory is an unequivocal supporter of the Second Amendment and will vote against any new gun restrictions targeting responsible, law-abiding Maine gun owners. He believes that public safety and constitutional rights go hand in hand.

Parental Rights & Education

Parents — not bureaucrats in Augusta — should be the primary decision-makers in their children's education and upbringing. Cory supports school choice, curriculum transparency, and policies that put families back in the driver's seat.

Cory believes that Maine's public schools should be accountable to the families they serve, not to ideological agendas or top-down mandates from the state capital. He supports greater transparency in what is being taught in classrooms, expanded school choice options so families can find the right fit for their children, and policies that empower local school boards to reflect community values. Education funding should follow the student, and every family in District 41 deserves the ability to make informed choices about their child's future.
